About The Position

Ingram Marine Group is seeking Fleet Deckhands for their Sauget and East Carondelet operations. Ingram Marine Group transports bulk commodities on America's inland waterways, delivers fuel and supplies to the towing industry, and provides a ship anchorage in Louisiana. The company operates a fleet transporting various products like aggregates, grain, fertilizer, coal, ores, alloys, steel products, and chemicals. This role supports fleeting operations in East Carondelet and Sauget, IL, and is open to both entry-level and experienced deckhands.

Requirements

  • Must have Drivers Licenses
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Must live within 1-hour of this location
  • Ability to uphold Ingram’s high safety standards
  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to respond quickly in an unexpected circumstance
  • Demonstration of critical thinking and decision making skills
  • Strong communication within all levels of the organization
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork and acceptance of diversity
  • Must be able to read and write the English language in order to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
  • Pass a post-offer process (background check, drug screen, physical)
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
  • Be able to work in confined spaces often entered through a manhole
  • Be able to climb a ladder
  • Be able to board and ride in a skiff

Responsibilities

  • Assisting deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tighten ratchets, sweep and shovel barges)
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping and cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assisting with locking
  • Carrying rigging (ratchets, wires and straps) pumps, hoses and lines
  • Working outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions such as heat/cold & rain/snow
  • Checking barges for water and leaks – which at times requires climbing into confined spaces
  • Upkeep of vessel appearance includes sooging (washing), chipping and painting
  • Assisting the Engineer as requested
  • Practicing safe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participating in safety drills and audits
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested
