About The Position

Requirements

• NSAA certification registered with the Nebraska Department of Education for consideration as a high school coach.
• If approved by Human Resources and the Athletic Director, a valid NDE teaching or administrative certificate, or Special Services Certification with a coaching endorsement, is required to coach at the high school level.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and well-being of student participants.
• Attend practices and competitive events consistently and arrive punctually.
• Support approved academic and classroom expectations for athletic participation, and monitor students’ academic performance.
• Set and maintain high standards for student-athlete conduct, supervise students, and support the varsity head coach’s plan for teaching appropriate behavior and applying consequences.
• Support and teach the athletics program designed by the varsity head coach, developing skills and encouraging teamwork during instruction, practices, and competitions.
• Gather accurate student eligibility information and provide it to the varsity head coach in a timely manner; support eligibility criteria set by the school, district, and governing bodies.
• Participate in district-approved activities with elementary and middle school students at the varsity head coach’s request.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, the varsity head coach, and building administrators about relevant changes, problems, or developments.
• Work cooperatively with coaches and officials to provide a positive experience for student-athletes and fans.
• Encourage participation in and support for all athletics programs, and assist other programs and coaches whenever possible.
• Plan and schedule athletics program activities with the Athletic Director and in accordance with local and state governing-body rules.
• Design and implement a strength and conditioning program that supports student-athlete health and safety and promotes program success.
• Design purposeful practices that develop athletic skills, deepen understanding of the sport, encourage teamwork, and promote participation and excellence.
• Lead students and staff in preparing for and participating in competitive events.
• Manage program resources effectively and arrange for student participants to return safely to their parents’ or guardians’ care after daily activities.
• Oversee facility safety conditions and promptly report concerns to the appropriate authority.
• Maintain an equipment inventory and be accountable for equipment condition and return; monitor needs and recommend replacement of equipment, supplies, and uniforms in advance when possible.
• Obtain required documentation for student eligibility in interscholastic athletics.
• Maintain and timely report reliable individual and team performance data.
• Maintain records of financial expenditures and reimbursements and submit required reports on time.
• Submit an end-of-season report with required data, an evaluation of program success, and recommendations for improvement.
