About The Position

Kern Medical is seeking a Cook I/II for its Nutrition Services department. This is a full-time position. Kern Medical has been a community cornerstone since its founding in 1867 and is an acute care teaching center. They offer a range of primary, specialty, and multi-specialty services. The estimated pay for this position is $20.4390 to $28.3277 per hour, which includes a 6% premium pay. Additional compensation may be available through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. This position may also be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.

Requirements

  • Level I: One year of experience as a cook in a full service restaurant or an institutional kitchen preparing food in quantity or one year of experience as a Food Service Worker II or a combination of education, training and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skills to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Level II: Two years of experience as a cook in a full service restaurant or an institutional kitchen preparing food in quantity or two years of experience as a Food Service Worker II or a combination of education, training and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skills to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Knowledge of the methods of preparing food in large quantities and considerable variety; kitchen sanitation and food storage; and personal cleanliness and neatness.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipes and prepare quantities of food required with a minimum of waste; accurately record information regarding menus and supplies; organize work and establish priorities in preparing meals.

  • Those who successfully complete training and meet the minimum requirements for Cook II may be promoted without further examination.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, cooks, and seasons, soups, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, desserts and other foods.
  • Follows master recipes in the preparation of food.
  • Prepares food for freezing; operates grill, deep fat fryer, steam cooker, slicers, mixers and other related equipment.
  • Assists in cleaning equipment and area after meals.
  • Serves food.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
