About The Position

Requirements

• Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) working in the automotive field; or graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum at an accredited trade or technical school; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License on the first day of employment.
• Possess an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
• Obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
• Pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
• May be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific equipment.
• Possess an active Hazardous Materials Endorsement (H) during the probationary period.
• Possess an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period.
• Comply with Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• Be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with repairing and overhauling cars, trucks, and heavy equipment, including replacing and repairing mechanical components.
• Support routine preventive maintenance to help keep vehicles and equipment safe and operational.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify equipment issues and help determine repair methods and needed parts.
• Participate in safety and emissions inspections, complete related records, and help verify compliance with requirements.
• Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, use protective equipment, and help reduce workplace hazards.
• Complete equipment records, document findings, and communicate maintenance information through written and oral reports.
