About The Position

The ECC Behavioral Health RN, under the supervision of the Nurse Director or designee, is responsible for the nursing care of assigned behavioral health patients located in the Emergency Care Center (ECC). This role facilitates the admission process for psychiatric patients to inpatient psychiatric units or transfers to outside facilities. The ECC Behavioral Health Nurse will care for behavioral health patients awaiting consultation from PES or bed placement, including medication administration, vital signs, and ADLs. This nurse will work closely with the ECC staff, Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), and the inpatient psychiatric units. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a current license by the Massachusetts Board of Nursing.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for health care provider required upon hire or during orientation.
  • Advanced Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required within 6 months of hiring.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 1 year emergency nursing or psychiatric nursing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency in multiple EHRs and is able to clearly document in all systems.
  • Acts as resource person for Department Directors and Unit Educators.
  • Receives and transmits all messages appropriately, accurately, and professionally to both staff and patients.
  • Uses effective/respectful communication techniques.
  • Supports all new initiatives and projects ensuring tasks are completed on the desired timeline.
  • Assists in the collection of data to support staff and patient education.
  • Maintains a calm, open environment that is conducive to a learning environment.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility, and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
