About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field.
• Two years of related experience in advising and recruiting.
• Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
• Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
• Travel required.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic advising grounded in practices outlined by NACADA, N4A, and appropriate academic advising and student development theories.
• Assist the Associate Athletic Director of Compliance with individual team certifications; perform administrative duties essential to the daily functioning of the office by monitoring overall NCAA compliance.
• Assist student-athletes with establishing and revising semester and annual goals and implementing action plans to achieve them.
• Promote student learning, development, and personal growth to empower self-sufficiency.
• Provide proactive referrals to appropriate resources, timely reminders, and targeted individual and group communications using email, texting, and social media.
• Collaborate with campus community members in student retention initiatives.
• Seek opportunities to serve on appropriate campus committees and task forces to advocate for students.
• Conduct research on academic advising topics and assist in organizing professional development activities.
• Keep current on NCAA, SWAC, and PVAMU rules and regulations relating to student-athlete issues.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of NCAA policies, procedures, and rules that affect student-athlete eligibility and graduation.
• Submit weekly academic updates to the head coach or designee to ensure student-athletes are tracking to maintain athletic eligibility and graduate on time.
• Use EAB Navigate to maintain notes on the caseload for more intensive advising.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
