About The Position
The Climbing Arborist Trainee works as a member of a tree crew and progressively learns tree-care skills. The role involves trimming and removing trees and limbs to support tree health and the safety of surrounding areas. The trainee learns to perform tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients, with training in tree identification, pruning guidelines, canopy pruning, hazardous tree removal, and installation of cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems. The role also includes properly maintaining, preparing, and operating tools and equipment such as chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts. This is a permanent, full-time, on-site position in Denver, Colorado, with travel expectations of up to 25%. Pay is $22.00–$25.00 per hour.
Requirements
- Love of the outdoors.
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR, and defensive driving course upon hire.
Nice To Haves
- Background in forestry, horticulture, landscaping, or working at heights.
- Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law.
Responsibilities
- Work as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills.
- Learn and perform tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.
- Learn tree identification and industry pruning guidelines.
- Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout tree canopies.
- Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
- Assist in removing hazardous trees.
- Maintain, prepare, and operate tools and equipment, including chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
