About The Position

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Metro North and Melrose YMCA Aquatics Director. Works as an assistant director for the Melrose Family YMCA assisting the Aquatics Director with direct service and administrative needs. A leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
  • One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor.
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Lifeguard Certified
  • Certified Pool Operator Certification within 120 days of employment.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Work schedule includes evenings and weekends with a Tuesday-Saturday work schedule.
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Supervises aquatic program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Ensure program quality and monitor staff performance and member service.
  • Assist management team with monitoring daily pool operations to adhere to state to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Develop relationships with members and obtain regular feedback on programs.
  • Supervise pool area and help ensure lifeguard staff are monitoring patrons and portraying professional behavior at all times. Ability to fill in as lifeguard, water safety instructor, and aquatics instructor.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and pool schedules.
  • Manages and teaches private swim lessons.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Works with the branch leadership team and support all YMCA events
  • Collaborates with all YMCA of Metro North aquatics leadership including the Association Aquatics Director.
