About The Position

Requirements

• Minimum age of 21.
• Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications.
• Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Deep Water Lifeguarding certification.
• Obtain YMCA Lifeguard Instructor Certification within 180 days of hire.
• Ability to maintain all required certifications and the necessary level of physical and mental readiness.
• Ability to demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Supervisory experience required.
• Ability to instruct and observe participants and demonstrate proper swimming and stroke techniques.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods, lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and lift or assist a small to average-sized child as needed.
• Physical ability to safely demonstrate aquatic skills and perform essential swim lesson teaching functions.
• Ability to maintain attention and communicate effectively in a loud and active aquatic environment.

Nice To Haves

• Current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor certification at the time of application; instructor level is preferred.
• Current Swim Instructor Certification, or ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
• Current CPO or AFO certification, or ability to obtain it within 60 days of hire.
• Trainer certifications in CPR, AED, O2, Swim Instructor, and Lifeguarding within one year of employment.
• Three to five years of experience in the aquatics field.
• College degree in a relevant field.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage the aquatics budget to meet fiscal objectives; make necessary purchases and manage inventories and deliveries of program supplies in accordance with Association standards.
• Direct and supervise aquatic programs, establish new activities, expand programs, and create and schedule swim classes, rentals, water exercise, and family events.
• Build membership and program participation through innovative aquatic programming that reflects YMCA mission and strategic and operating plans.
• Respond to member and community inquiries and complaints, compile program statistics, and monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and participation.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate aquatic personnel and volunteers; develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
• Maintain complete and current staff certification records and ensure aquatics staff are trained in emergency procedures and regular in-service training.
• Conduct training in lifeguarding, swim instruction, oxygen administration, swim instructor First Aid, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
• Respond immediately to emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and complete related training and recordkeeping reports.
• Maintain indoor and outdoor pools and ensure accurate pool chemical and facility maintenance records in compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.
• Work with the center Executive Director, Association team, outside organizations, and partners to make pool facilities available for community needs.
• Participate in Program Committee and Cabinet meetings as needed, YMCA fundraising activities, and special events.
• Complete required employee training and comply with YMCA policies, procedures, safety precautions, regulations, and best practices.
• Perform the functions of supervised staff and meet Lifeguard III and Swim Instructor qualifications and certifications; assist in other areas as assigned.
• Achieve assigned organizational and youth development goals measured by program quality, safety and compliance, accreditation readiness, cause-driven measures, operating results, participant and team member experience, and supervisor evaluation.
