About The Position

Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16-29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Drop-In Centre, offering barrier-free counselling, hot meals, and community programming, and a Transitional Home, providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support. This position will support the Transitional Home. Our approach is comprehensive, involving mind, body, and community. Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in social services (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with youth and/or in mental health, addictions, or residential settings.
  • Current CPR/First-Aid training is required (or to be obtained upon being hired).
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check clearance.
  • Reside in Ontario.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Training in CPI, ASIST, and/or UMAB is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and support youth in a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment.
  • Provide front desk, housing, and general program support while maintaining clean, safe, and organized spaces.
  • Support program delivery, including set-up, take-down, preparing materials and supplies, engaging participants, and assisting with program-related paperwork.
  • Coordinate access to basic needs and connect youth with appropriate internal and external resources.
  • Provide administrative support, including documentation, photocopying, scanning, and recordkeeping.
  • Respond to immediate needs and provide crisis intervention using trauma-informed de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including shift notes, incidents, safety plans, and communicating effectively during staff handovers.
  • Ensure continuity of care, access to essential services, and a safe, supportive environment during evening, overnight weekend, public holiday, and other assigned shifts.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry objects and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support evolving operational needs.
