About The Position
The Youth Basketball Instructor assists with youth basketball programs and activities, helping participants develop their skills while promoting sportsmanship and teamwork in a safe, supportive environment. The instructor helps create a fun, encouraging, and skill-building experience for youth participants of different ages and ability levels, and supports the YMCA’s focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Requirements
- Experience engaging and working with youth of varying ages.
- Positive attitude with strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends during seasons.
- Dependable, energetic, and committed to creating a positive experience for participants and families.
Nice To Haves
- Some basketball playing and/or coaching experience is preferred; basic knowledge of the sport is sufficient.
- Opportunity to gain coaching and youth development experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist with or coach youth basketball teams.
- Help lead basketball training sessions and skill clinics.
- Supervise or assist with open gym activities.
- Operate scoreboards during games and events.
- Encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill development.
- Support YMCA staff in creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
