About The Position

Under the direction and guidance of the Youth Services District Director and consistent with the mission and policies of the YMCA of Southeastern NC, the Associate Director is fully dedicated to the YMCA branch facility, and they are responsible for the oversight of the Afterschool program and Summer Camp programs at that facility. The Associate Director serves as the primary daily face to face contact for YMCA coworkers, faculty, parents, and guardians and helps establish the afterschool program and summer camp at the assigned facility. The Director must have the competencies, skills, and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out the YMCA mission, goals, and vision for serving the community. The Director will provide direction for the program and classroom, implement program curriculum, and provide quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements

  • Two years or more of college preferred working towards a degree in education or related field.
  • At least 21 years of age and / or training significant for the YMCA program.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • 2 years experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Must be able to see and hear.
  • Must be able to speak clearly.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must be in good health.
  • Must be able to bend, stand, stoop, walk, and climb a ladder.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate written and verbal instructions.
  • Must wear equipment including eye and face protection as well as close toe shoes, gloves, and other personal protective equipment while on the job when necessary.
  • Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.
  • Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.
  • Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.
  • Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
  • Conducts parent conferences and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Engages parents as volunteers.
  • Perform daily administrative work as needed such as filing, copying, record keeping, organization, customer service (including emails and phone calls).
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports; maintains CACFP and SFSP records.
  • Attends and participates in family events, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Follows and implements the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.
  • Trains new staff on current YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Supervises afterschool and summer camp counselors; modify the schedule as necessary to maintain appropriate staff to student ratios and remain within budget.
  • Develop relationships with school and community stakeholders to further deepen the YMCA and school relationship.
  • Assists in hiring, firing, and oversight of the YMCA payroll system for all staff working under the Associate Director.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by supervisors.
