Yard Utility Laborer
About The Position
Sutherlin Sanitation in Sutherlin, Oregon, is hiring a Yard Utility Laborer to help keep its facility operating smoothly. The role includes maintaining the yard, cleaning and repairing containers, directing customer traffic, and assisting with the safe operation of the transfer station and recycling depot. Duties may vary daily according to operational needs, and other related tasks may be assigned. The schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The position involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and performing strenuous physical work, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing over 65 pounds. Employees must be able to stand for long periods and follow basic safety precautions around moving mechanical parts. The work environment includes exposure to extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Pass random drug and alcohol screenings in accordance with company policy.
- Read, write, and comprehend reports in English to complete daily assignments.
- Pass post-offer drug screening, background check, and motor vehicle record check.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical work, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 65 pounds, and to stand for long periods.
- Follow basic safety precautions around moving mechanical parts.

Responsibilities
- Maintain the yard and facility, including paper picking, cutting weeds, and keeping the yard clean and presentable.
- Wash, repair, and assemble trash bins and containers.
- Manage customer traffic.
- Learn to operate equipment such as a forklift, leaf blower, and pressure washer.
- Interact courteously with customers.
- Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned; specific duties may change daily based on operational needs.
