Yard Truck Operator

About The Position

The Yard Truck Operator maneuvers tractor trailers to support product loading and unloading while maintaining the safety and security of the division yard and dock area. Work must be completed safely and on time, in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and customer requirements, with active communication. The operator maintains equipment and product quality, helps control product flow through the yard management system, and performs related operational tasks as required by the site.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in a related field.
High school diploma or GED.
Willingness to work flexible hours.
Ability to perform light equipment maintenance.
Ability to perform a DOT pre-trip inspection on trailers.

Responsibilities

Maintain and maneuver equipment in the yard before dispatch, following agreed procedures to maintain product quality according to customer requirements.
Move equipment safely around the yard and warehouse, using independent judgment to prevent accidents.
Maintain equipment on site and track it through the yard management system.
Control product flow through the yard management system and take remedial action to maintain flow.
Drop and hook tractor to trailer.
Inspect the truck for defects before and after trips and submit reports on its condition.
Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs, including performing light maintenance.
Perform DOT pre-trip inspections on trailers.
Complete scheduled jobs correctly and on time, ensuring products are loaded, unloaded, and stored promptly in line with customer performance standards.
Assist with loading and unloading trucks and containers as required by the site.
Assist colleagues with tasks and help maintain a clean, tidy work environment.
Continuously look for areas of improvement.
Perform other duties as assigned.
