About The Position

The Yard Operator safely operates and cares for forklifts and other heavy industrial mobile equipment. The role involves moving, stocking, storing, pulling, picking, and staging baled paper in designated areas according to mill production specifications and needs. The operator maintains neat, orderly, and safe stacks, completes required paperwork accurately and on time, follows the production schedule and company policies, and maintains good housekeeping. The position works a 12-hour rotating day and night schedule and requires working scheduled holidays. The operator follows directions under limited supervision and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Forklift certification and a current Fork Lift Truck Operator License, which must be maintained.
Able to read, write, and speak English and follow instructions.
Able to apply common-sense understanding to written, oral, or graphic instructions and address problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Able to meet the physical demands of the role, including regularly sitting, frequently using hands to finger, handle, or feel and reaching with hands and arms, and potentially lifting or moving up to 20 pounds.
Able to work outdoors in wet, hot or humid, and cold conditions.
Able to work a 12-hour rotating position and through scheduled holidays.

Nice To Haves

At least 3 years of forklift experience is preferred.
Prior work experience driving heavy industrial mobile equipment.

Responsibilities

Safely operate and care for forklifts and other heavy industrial mobile equipment.
Transport, move, stock, and store baled paper in specified staging areas.
Pull, pick, and stage paper bales according to production needs and mill specifications.
Maintain neat, orderly, and safe stock stacks in staging areas.
Complete necessary paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
Adhere to the daily production schedule.
Follow company policies and procedures, including safety requirements and good housekeeping practices.
Follow directions under limited supervision.
Work a 12-hour rotating day and night shift and through scheduled holidays.
Perform other duties as assigned.
