About The Position

TA Services is hiring a Mill/Yard Operator at its Nucor Steel location in Hertford, North Carolina. The role operates and maintains heavy-duty forklifts, yard vehicles, and equipment; handles inbound loads and outbound orders; and helps maintain inventory and a clean, safe work environment. Work is outdoors all day except while in the truck. The position works a 12-hour rotating swing shift. The posting notes that advancement opportunities are minimal, with foreman identified as the next step.

Requirements

Experience operating heavy-duty forklifts, including a Taylor lift, is required.
Safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and cooperative with supervisors and coworkers.
Able to handle physically demanding work.
Able to walk around trucks and inspect fluids and conditions.
Able to climb up and down five steps for truck ingress and egress up to 12 times per 12-hour shift.
Able to hook and unhook trailer airlines up to 75 times per 12-hour shift.
Able to dismount the truck and position wood dunnage weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.
Able to steer and stop a truck and trailer weighing up to 90,000 pounds during 12-hour shifts.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Knowledge of yard operations and equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain heavy-duty forklifts, including a Taylor lift, yard vehicles, and equipment.
Comply with Safe Job Instructions (SJIs), training requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations.
Receive and inspect inbound loads, complete paperwork, and supervise unloading personnel.
Prepare and complete orders for delivery or pickup, verify product integrity and counts, and ensure proper trailer or container loading.
Maintain inventory controls and a clean, safe work environment.
Report hazards or other issues to the supervisor.
