About The Position

The Yard Supervisor oversees a team of Yard Workers supporting the shipping of aluminum trailers. The role is responsible for meeting daily shipping and productivity goals while maintaining safety, quality, cost, and employee morale. Duties include scheduling and assigning work, managing employee performance and relations, supporting training and development, and ensuring adherence to company policies and quality standards. The Yard Supervisor also reviews freight orders, coordinates communication between the yard, other shifts, and the Logistics & Office Manager, and maintains a clean, organized yard that allows trailers to be accessed easily.

Requirements

Hands-on experience working with a variety of power tools.
Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
Previous supervisory experience.
Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others in a positive manner.
Ability to plan ahead over a 30-day time span and prepare action plans to achieve results.
Experience with supervision, including employee hiring and retention, performance review, and discipline.
Ability to train and develop employees.
Ability to measure performance against goals and standards.
Ability to balance safety, quality, productivity, cost, and employee relations.
Knowledge of quality management systems and an orientation toward continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Oversee a line of Yard Workers and meet daily shipping targets while balancing quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale.
Perform preventive maintenance.
Manage employee schedules to ensure sufficient labor for shipping targets, maintain labor rates within established ranges, and seek efficiency improvements.
Set expectations and goals for subordinates and provide timely positive and constructive feedback.
Ensure compliance with company policies, laws, regulations, and best practices.
Cross-train employees and support their development through challenging assignments and discussions about growth opportunities.
Ensure adequate communication between shifts, when applicable, and between the yard and the Logistics & Office Manager.
Review freight orders to identify potential issues and prevent shipping delays.
Maintain a clean and organized yard to facilitate easy access to trailers.
Follow safety policies, wear appropriate PPE, and hold employees to high safety expectations.
Ensure finished products meet quality expectations and support continuous improvement.
Perform other related duties and assignments as required.
