About The Position

The Yard Spotter/Jockey is responsible for monitoring all traffic inside the facility and moving trailers in and out of docks or around the facility. This role requires the ability to back trailers up to dock doors, often with other trailers on either side of docks. The Yard Spotter/Jockey inspects all vehicles for proper and safe operating conditions to assist a fast-paced processing plant and/or transportation facility. The role may require driving in adverse weather conditions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or Higher
  • At least 23 years of age
  • Valid Class A CDL
  • No more than (2) Moving Violations in the last 3 years.
  • At least 3 years verifiable experience in the last 7 years.
  • No failed or refused drug test in the last 3 years.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Drive trailer jockey and tractor.
  • Move trailer to designated dock for loading and unloading.
  • Connect and disconnect tractor from trailer.
  • Maintain Drop Trailer Log and communicate with Gatehouse and Transportation.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage before and after shift.
  • Maintain good housekeeping to avoid debris around the facility dock and staging areas.
  • Foster a safe work environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.
  • Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
  • Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
