About The Position

The Yard Foreman oversees and directs yard personnel to support good customer service and the safe, efficient movement of goods and equipment on the premises. The role coordinates yard operations, provides on-the-job training, assists customers, and performs the same work as other yard employees. Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve changing weather and temperature, equipment noise, and dust.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), and four years of experience performing and coordinating yard or manufacturing activities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Working knowledge of yard and product activities at the location, including component or material weights and loading methods.
• Ability to plan and coordinate work processes to maintain and increase manpower and equipment efficiency.
• Advanced knowledge of operating and handling machinery and equipment used in the yard; maintain certification to operate such equipment if required.
• Communication skills sufficient to speak to teams and work groups about work rules, product standards, and productivity goals.
• Ability to read and write work schedules and reports.
• Knowledge of basic math, counting, and estimating.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and, on occasion, up to 80 pounds.
• May be required to perform tasks involving climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.

Responsibilities

• Direct workers loading, unloading, and moving materials on the premises using material-handling equipment and machinery; oversee receiving yard materials and instruct workers in receiving and storage procedures.
• Inspect outgoing delivery loading operations for compliance with shipping specifications, load limits, and safety regulations; prepare and reconcile bills of lading and packing slips.
• Provide on-the-job training to new yard employees, including product knowledge and housekeeping and safety procedures.
• Perform the same work as other yard employees.
• Keep outside areas neat and clean, ensure scraps and yard debris are recycled or disposed of appropriately, report safety hazards, and take remedial action.
• Assist customers with loading and load building; provide delivery-status and inventory-availability information and answer related questions.
• Observe and enforce safety procedures and practices to prevent injury or damage; schedule periodic safety meetings and solicit recommendations for improving safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
