Yard Coordinator
About The Position
The Yard Coordinator loads finished trailers and parts for scheduled shipments, including loading trailers onto flatbed, drop-deck, and ramp commercial carriers. The role operates forklifts, a yard tractor, and other material-handling equipment, maintains an organized yard, secures loads, and supports shipping documentation and freight-order review. It also includes basic preventive maintenance on yard equipment and other related duties as required. The position is entirely outdoors and involves frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing and pulling, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, and seated driving. The work environment includes moderate, steady noise below 85 dB, slippery surfaces, dust, dirt, shavings, and exposure to extreme weather.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must have forklift experience.
- Advanced rigging and load-securement skills.
- Ability to plan ahead and prepare action plans to achieve results.
- Ability to balance safety, quality, productivity, cost, and employee relations while achieving positive results.
- Attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with crew members and outside drivers.
- Ability to meet the physical and environmental demands described, including frequent lifting, pushing and pulling, and working entirely outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Nice To Haves
- Previous hands-on experience with tractors, vehicles, and forklifts.
- Previous hands-on experience with boom lifts.
- Previous hands-on experience with a variety of power tools.
- Previous rigging experience.
Responsibilities
- Load finished trailers and parts for scheduled shipments.
- Operate forklifts, a yard tractor, and material-handling equipment in and around the warehouse.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the yard.
- Use loading straps, wood, and dunnage to properly secure loads.
- Follow safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work with the Shipping Yard Lead to ensure drivers receive proper load documentation.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance on yard equipment, including tractors, lift trucks, and fall-protection equipment systems.
- Review freight orders to identify potential issues and avoid shipping delays.
- Load and unload shipments and pallets as required.
- Perform other related duties and assignments as required.
