Yard and Shop Custodian - Heavy Equipment
About The Position
The Yard and Shop Custodian helps maintain clean, orderly, and safe areas across the facility campus. The role removes waste and recycling, keeps outdoor areas clear of debris, and supports facility upkeep in accordance with contamination-control procedures. The custodian follows applicable safety, environmental, and contamination-control policies, wears required personal protective equipment, completes assigned training, and contributes to team goals while meeting safety and quality expectations. The position works under regular monitoring, with some discretion to set priorities and make decisions within established parameters. Work is typically performed during regular business hours, with occasional requirements to work nights, holidays, and weekends. The work involves indoor and outdoor conditions, exposure to noise and vibration, and occasional exposure to weather extremes, hazards, oils, and airborne contaminants. No supervisory responsibility is assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six months or less of experience.
- Ability to comprehend written material and communicate effectively orally and in writing with employees and customers.
- Basic problem-solving ability using established examples or guidance.
- Ability to generate solutions or improve effectiveness within well-established boundaries.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assigned work safely and follow applicable safety, environmental, and contamination-control policies, procedures, and regulations; wear proper personal protective equipment.
- Keep areas outside buildings clean by operating the yard sweeper and blowers, sweeping, and picking up debris.
- Work with facility managers to establish housekeeping procedures that support an optimal appearance for team members and visitors.
- Remove waste and recycling from designated shop and campus areas and place it in designated locations.
- Notify a supervisor when designated waste or recycling areas reach capacity.
- Help maintain the facility by following contamination-control guidelines.
- Attend and successfully complete required tasks and training classes.
- Work neatly and orderly, and look for ways to improve work methods, the work area, and safety standards.
- Support the work team and complete tasks on time while meeting safety and quality expectations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
