About The Position

The Writing Center Office Assistant role involves duties in three main areas: reception, communication, and facilitation. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, answering questions, assisting students with appointments, notifying instructors of arrivals, handling phone calls, and managing email correspondence. The role also involves tracking appointment statuses, managing waitlists, and assisting instructors with their calendars. Occasionally, the position may involve creating new forms, correspondence, and procedures to improve the efficiency of the Writing Center.

Requirements

  • Greet all visitors to the Writing Center.
  • Answer visitor questions.
  • Help students make appointments.
  • Alert Writing Center Instructors when people arrive to see them.
  • Answer phones and forward calls as appropriate.
  • Send e-mail correspondence to students using standard templates.
  • Track student responses to emails.
  • Record confirmed, cancelled, no-show, and completed appointments.
  • Manage the wait list.
  • Help Writing Center instructors manage their appointment calendars.
  • Occasionally create new forms, correspondence, and procedures to ensure the Writing Center runs efficiently.
