About The Position
We are looking for a Working Student Designer to join our Heartbeat AI product design team, with a focus on our design system. This role involves shaping the shared design language, components, tokens, patterns, and documentation for Heartbeat, enabling teams to design and ship more consistently. The ideal candidate balances high autonomy and proactive problem-solving with a thoughtful approach to design system architecture. While not expected to know everything, the candidate should be eager to learn, explore, and improve the system for all users. This position is not solely focused on side tasks or senior product ownership.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in UX, Interaction Design, HCI, Visual Communication, or a related field.
- Systems-curious: demonstrates an understanding of how design decisions scale across components, tokens, and naming conventions.
- Autonomous: capable of identifying gaps, proposing next steps, and following through on tasks.
- Deliberate: able to work with pace while not rushing architectural decisions.
- Eager to learn: demonstrates a proactive approach to overcoming challenges and acquiring new knowledge.
- AI-curious: actively uses or is excited to use AI in their workflow and can demonstrate its application.
- Craft-minded: possesses a sense of quality in visual design, interaction, and consistency; academic projects are acceptable.
- Clear communicator: proficient in English; German is a plus.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Figma, Claude, or Cursor.
- Familiarity with design systems, UI craft, documentation, and AI-assisted workflows.
- Experience in collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to our scalable, code-aligned design system and help maintain consistency across Heartbeat.
- Audit, structure, and document components, tokens, and UI patterns.
- Support designers and engineers with reusable building blocks to expedite handoff.
- Utilize AI and modern tools (Figma, Claude, Cursor) for faster exploration, documentation, and iteration.
- Partner with designers and engineers, ask pertinent questions, and ensure decisions are clear and easy to follow.
