About The Position

The Work Based Learning (WBL)/Experience Coordinator combines and coordinates efforts of many individuals, assuring that work-based learning experiences effectively and efficiently help students develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and work habits to move successfully into the world of work. The WBL coordinator collaborates with industry partners, CTE instructors, core content instructors, post-secondary institutions, counselors, students, and administrators to facilitate internships, apprenticeships, job shadows, paid-work, volunteer service, tours, and any form of business connection. They deliver instructional and leadership services to empower students with related personal, workplace, technical and academic skills essential to pursuing career pathways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience working with Urban high school youth.
  • Experience with organizing trips, internships and building community partnerships.
  • Strong analytical abilities to assess student performance data and identify areas for improvement.
  • Effective communication skills are essential for collaborating with teachers, community and employer partners providing constructive feedback.
  • Experience working in an urban school environment.
  • Acceptable criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Utilize proper discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Work well without close supervision and with little direction.
  • Be able to solve problems independently and manage projects alone.
  • Be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor students in work, internship, apprenticeship, and volunteer experiences to assess/evaluate their skill development, provide support, and track appropriateness of workplace conditions.
  • Work with agencies to continue to develop and update the list of business partners and volunteers willing to host students for work-based experiences and provide business and work based outreach activities for all students.
  • Establish relationships with businesses, local workforce agencies, community partners, and higher education partners for the purpose of providing WBL experiences, registered apprenticeships, industry certifications, and post-secondary career pathways.
  • Facilitate business partnerships and connections for other UACHS staff.
  • Collaborate with each business to create a focused training agreement for students including skills students will learn and daily job duties.
  • Connect and support students to career opportunities and coordinate educational experiences for students on-and-off campus.
  • Facilitate student preparation for work experiences. Teach courses and/or work with a teacher to provide workplace readiness skills.
  • Integrate Pennsylvania Workplace Readiness Standards in all WBL instruction, activities, and experiences.
  • Collaborate with area businesses and professional organizations to identify or create events for student and teacher participation to increase career awareness, exploration and career ready skills.
  • Maintain and support CTE advisory committee(s) to assist in meeting work based learning and technical focus area program goals.
  • Support and partner with staff to develop activities and support students in completing the four-year career plans and Pennsylvania Workplace Readiness Standards as well as annual career objective forms.
  • Provide, support and be actively engaged in relevant Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) opportunities.
  • Serve on local workforce development boards and sector partnerships.
  • Promote UACHS and WBL within the community.
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents, students, teachers, staff, outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required regarding WBL.
  • Attend conferences and workshops.
  • Attend work and arrive in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned
