Wine & Beer Associate
About The Position
Heinen’s seeks a Wine & Beer Associate to help create a “wine & beer shop within a grocery store” experience. The associate works alongside a dedicated team, develops knowledge of wine and beer, and helps customers make product selections. The role offers an opportunity to gain experience in the wine and beer business and potential for promotion. The position supports daily Wine & Beer Department operations, including customer assistance, product demonstrations and events, ordering, stocking, rotation, merchandising, and shrink tracking. Associates must follow company conduct and food safety policies, attend required meetings and training, and help meet department and company objectives. The schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, flexible hours, and occasional additional hours.
Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to work independently and efficiently.
- At least 21 years of age, in compliance with alcohol service regulations.
- Knowledge of wines from around the world and ability to guide customers on product selection and food pairings.
- Passion for retail, with a focus on quality, customer service, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Production-oriented mindset and ability to perform repetitive tasks while standing for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as business needs require, including occasional additional hours.
- Availability for a non-traditional schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work in environments that may occasionally involve hot or cold conditions.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize and manage daily tasks in response to changing business needs.
- Develop and share comprehensive knowledge of the Wine & Beer Department.
- Collaborate with the Wine & Beer Lead to organize, support, and execute product demonstrations and special events.
- Use product knowledge and promotional information to provide customer assistance in the Wine & Beer Department.
- Work with the team on daily operations, including shrink tracking, order writing, stocking, product rotation, and merchandising.
- Prepare and manage product orders using effective par levels and planning techniques.
- Comply with company policies related to personal conduct and food safety.
- Participate in required corporate meetings and training programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support department and company objectives.
