About The Position

The Welder cuts and joins metals and other materials using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment with great precision. The Welder fabricates or repairs products such as machine parts, plant and shipboard equipment, motors, and generators. The welding position is important as it provides the foundation for a strong infrastructure. Welders must be competent in using dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. The ideal candidate will have steady hands and a great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Driven machinery certifications such as a forklift and telehandler which in turn requires a valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school preferred; or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six months experience in a food manufacturing maintenance department.
  • Proven experience as a welder specifically food grade welding procedures and compliance measures.
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, etc.).
  • Experience using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing/equipment.
  • Employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Employee is frequently required to climb or balance.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Employee is regularly required to understand English and utilize teamwork skills.
  • The employee is frequently required to speak English and use decision making skills.
  • The employee is occasionally required to use mentoring skills, problem analysis, training, and supervision skills.
  • The employee will be occasionally required to read and write in English, perform basic math, exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
  • Employee must be able to withstand moderate to high levels of stress.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
  • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
  • Ensures the safe and efficient operation of refrigeration systems and related equipment.
  • Performs administrative activities associated with the effective management of department operations.
  • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
  • Timely and regular attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
