About The Position

The Welcome Desk Receptionist is the face of the Houston Food Bank. This role serves as an ambassador, greeting volunteers, visitors, and guests and directing them to appropriate areas. The position will be responsible for answering incoming phone calls, notifying Houston Food Bank staff of visitor arrivals, and performing other front desk duties. This position will work in a fast-paced environment with large groups of volunteers at any given time who may approach the welcome desk at once with multiple questions. Adherence to PACT values (Purpose, Accountability, Courage, Transparency) is expected.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma from an accredited school or general education development (GED) certificate
  • 1 + years of customer service experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills and willingness to assist others and ensure a positive experience
  • Must possess a friendly and welcoming demeanor
  • Ability to work cooperatively and coordinate well with other departments, personnel, volunteers, and clients
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Strong time-management skills, self-starter, self-motivated
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Is legally able to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Reliable, consistent, on-site attendance is a requirement.
  • Welcomes guests and staff in a friendly manner.
  • Actively listens to and addresses guest/staff needs and inquiries.
  • Answers phones and transfers to appropriate staff members.
  • Manages the inventory and sales of the HFB store.
  • Assists volunteers with registration and check-in, enter volunteer data into the volunteer management database, and help with volunteer hours verification.
  • Intake, sorting, and distributing packages and mail.
  • Equip the welcome desk with all the necessary tools such as supplies, copies of fact sheets, hour forms, etc.
  • Ensures high-quality customer service.
  • Signing in/out Blue Badge volunteers as needed.
  • Schedules volunteers for volunteer shifts as needed.
