About The Position

The Weighmaster Clerk is responsible for performing office work, including using the telephone and computers, answering the telephone and radio, and communicating professionally with truck drivers and other departments. This role involves preparing and handling documents, recording railcar numbers, operating scales to record vehicle weights, handling mail, filing documents, entering data into a computer, and maintaining computerized and manual logs of cars in the yard. The clerk will also compare bills with lists of cars and keep track of supplies needed for all scale houses. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate with all vendors and employees, and demonstrate good customer service to all personnel.
  • Must be able to use hand signals and have both written and verbal skills.
  • Must be able to speak and read English and understand written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to operate scales and check them for accuracy.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.

  • Standing/Walking: Occasionally. Standing at scales. Walk short distances in office and across gravel and concrete yard.
  • Crouching (bend at knees): Rarely.
  • Stooping: Occasionally. While filing.
  • Reaching: Occasionally. Reach above shoulder height to operate scales. Frontal reaching to enter data into computer. Rare reaching below waist to access files.
  • Twisting/Turning: Occasionally. Inspecting position of trucks. Twist back while sitting in desk chair to move to different workstations.
  • Climbing: Climb one flight of stairs four times per day.
  • Kneeling: Rarely, when removing supplies from storage.
  • Leg/Foot Control: Rarely. To operate golf cart.
  • Handling: Continually. Handle scale tickets, pen and pencil.
  • Fingering/Feeling/Grasping: Continually. Finger/feel while keyboarding and operating scale. Grasp scale tickets, pens, calculator, ticket printer and radio.
  • Balance: Continually. Must have good balance and coordination.
  • Vehicle Use: Rarely. Golf cart.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Rarely. To open and close desk and storage drawers.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasionally. Carry office supplies averaging approximately one pound. Rarely lift of box of tickets weighing maximum of 20 pounds.
