About The Position

Family Haven, a nonprofit focused on preventing and treating child abuse, seeks two people to work in its Crisis/Respite Nursery. The role involves caring for children from newborn through age 11 who may be at risk of abuse or neglect, providing them with a safe environment and healthy adult role models while their parents address difficult situations. Playing and engaging with children is the primary activity, helping them feel connected and safe. Family Haven serves as a community resource 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The position requires one weekend per month on call, from Friday at 5:30 p.m. to Monday at 8:00 a.m. The scheduled on-site period is Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the possibility of additional on-site hours depending on crisis circumstances. Pay is $15 per hour for on-site time and $1 per hour for on-call time, per person. Applicants should indicate the name of the second person applying with them.

Requirements

• Both individuals must be over age 20.
• Both individuals must have at least six months of professional or life experience working with children who display challenging behaviors or have special needs.
• Food handler permit and First Aid/CPR certification; Family Haven will help obtain these during training if needed.
• Ability to pass a background check; fingerprinting and submission occur at hiring.

Responsibilities

• Work one weekend per month on call from Friday at 5:30 p.m. through Monday at 8:00 a.m.
• Carry the on-call cell phone and answer all calls during on-call time.
• Remain within 30 minutes of being able to admit children to the nursery if a crisis occurs.
• Connect with children through play and provide care to meet their needs during on-site time.
• Check families in and out.
• Perform basic cleaning and paperwork.
• Prepare and serve meals and snacks.
• Supervise volunteers.
