About The Position

The mission of the Waste Education and Outreach team is to inform, engage, and empower Edmontonians to fully participate in their City’s waste system. This position supports the planning, delivery and evaluation of community outreach for priority projects under the City of Edmonton’s 25-Year Waste Strategy. Reporting to the Program Lead, Waste Outreach, this role will be responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of door-to-door outreach programs. While the Program Lead is responsible for managing the overall strategy of outreach programs, this position oversees and coordinates the program’s day-to-day program activities, leading a team of Waste Outreach Educators, including recruitment, training, proactive team culture development, and performance mentorship. The Coordinator also models excellent customer care when engaging residents in conversation during doorstep visits or outreach events and collaborates closely with internal partners, residents, and property managers. Finally, the program relies on our Coordinators to guide the gathering and sharing of critical program data to inform strategic decisions made by the Waste Services branch.

Requirements

  • Degree in Education, Business (Management), Recreation/Leisure, Political Sciences, or a related discipline, with some training in program development
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience in curriculum development, program evaluation or related specialization such as experience planning and leading dynamic Waste Outreach programs
  • Knowledge of the effective delivery of educational programs, including effective education approaches and behaviour change tactics
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as solve problems and know when to escalate
  • Knowledge of how to conduct a conversation with members of the public outside of a script in a de-escalation manner while still focussing on waste behaviour change
  • Ability to provide strong leadership to groups of staff, including communicating priorities, mentoring, guiding and coaching
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships that reflect a respectful and inclusive style
  • Strong skills in program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Excellent facilitation, verbal and written communication skills, particularly in the development of public education materials
  • Experience in customer service and engagement
  • Experience in report writing
  • Strong technical acumen with comprehensive data analysis skills
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Well developed planning, time management, and priority setting skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Exhibits strong skills in collaboration, teamwork and fostering a positive work environment
  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to plan and coordinate work assignments
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms, Drive) and the ability to learn and adapt to evolving technology
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Record Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be costs associated with this requirement

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience leading a team of ten (10) or more, including training in related leadership courses
  • Knowledge of the City of Edmonton’s waste services and programs
  • Experience using GIS apps for data collection and evaluation
  • Experience in an operational environment

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate outreach programs to support Waste Service's strategic goals
  • Lead a team of Waste Outreach Educators, including recruitment, training, scheduling, proactive team culture development and performance mentorship
  • Model excellent customer care when engaging residents in conversation during doorstep visits or outreach events
  • Communicate effectively with individual residents, property managers and internal partners
  • Support the design of program evaluation approaches and conduct regular program evaluation using data collected from ArcGIS, other data collection tools, photographs, and quantitative/qualitative data
  • Respond to the escalation of challenging customer interactions experienced by Outreach Educators
  • Provide technical information and training for Waste Outreach Educators and the larger team on challenging interactions with the public
