About The Position

As a Material Handler/Powered Equipment Operator at Smithfield Foods, you will perform essential production tasks and support coworkers while helping maintain safety, quality, and teamwork. The role involves moving products throughout the facility using powered equipment. The positions can be physically demanding and require good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail. Operators must work their scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime based on production demands. Specific equipment certifications may be required during the qualification period. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform essential functions.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
Able to stand on concrete or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
Able to work around animal blood or carcass parts; in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees; and in wet, humid, noisy environments with strong odors.
Able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, steel-toed safety shoes, and other required personal protective equipment.
Able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
Able to climb or move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively; and walk long distances.
May need certification to operate various pieces of equipment for the position.
Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs, single lifts of objects weighing up to 60 lbs, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
Must be able to work the scheduled shift; overtime may be required depending on production demands.

Responsibilities

Move product throughout the facility using forklifts, jack lifts, high lifts, and powered industrial trucks.
Perform essential production tasks and support coworkers.
Help maintain a safe and efficient production line and meet safety and quality standards.
Work the scheduled shift and overtime when required by production demands.
Meet specific equipment certification requirements during the qualification period.
Perform other duties as assigned.
