About The Position

The VTL Coach delivers In-Shape’s internally developed VTL small group training program to members. The coach brings training expertise and completes the required internal VTL Coach Certification (Small Group Training) within 45 days of hire. Comprehensive training and support are provided; passing the certification is a condition of continued employment, absent extenuating circumstances. The role encourages members to pursue a holistic approach to fitness through group fitness and recreational sports programs. Coaches monitor members’ needs and progress through safe exercise routines and create engaging, impactful, and enjoyable workout experiences. The role may involve leading live or virtual classes and working with people of all ages. Pay is $32.90 per hour when teaching a VTL class and $18.90 per hour for non-teaching work, with the ability to earn additional incentive compensation. The position is part-time and includes flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Submit documentation for required certifications.
For fitness classes, hold a qualifying national certification (such as AFAA, ACE, NASM, or ISSA) or format-specific training (such as Les Mills, Zumba, Keiser, or U-Jam Fitness) to teach free programming.
Complete online and in-person internal training requirements to teach paid programming.
Hold a lifeguard certification to teach aqua programming; in-house training is available after hire if not already certified.
For sports classes or clinics, have at least 2 years of team sports experience to teach free programming.
Hold a national certification (such as USPTA, USTA Net Generation, USAPA, IPTPA, or US Masters certification) to teach paid sports programming.
Complete an audition as part of the selection process.
Demonstrate strong motivational skills.
Be able to work independently.
Be Trustline Registered to coach children.
Be willing and able to work a flexible shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Have a flexible, positive attitude and excellent communication skills; work well under pressure and time constraints and display positive behaviors in member interactions.
Hold current CPR certification or be able to pass CPR certification within 60 days of hire.
Successfully complete the internal VTL Coach Certification (Small Group Training) within 45 days of hire as a condition of continued employment, absent extenuating circumstances.

Responsibilities

Encourage members to explore group fitness classes, recreational sports programs, and club amenities.
Promote and participate in club events, encouraging members and guests to attend through social media and in-club engagement.
Build welcoming, approachable connections with members; teach authentically and offer genuine praise.
Validate members’ access to paid programming.
Deliver motivating instruction with clear verbal and non-verbal cues, smooth class flow, and modifications that help members succeed.
Teach correct form and technique to support member safety and exercise benefits.
Demonstrate proper form, technique, and equipment use as a role model.
Engage with members outside class to build community and a sense of belonging.
Encourage members to continue participating in multiple club programs.
Follow procedures for equipment use, storage, and maintenance.
Teach all assigned classes and arrange class substitutions when needed.
Complete assigned training and key tasks on time.
Maintain a safe, well-kept environment by correctly implementing safety and operating policies and procedures.
Coach others and remain open to coaching for professional growth.
Resolve concerns and problems in accordance with members’ needs and company guidelines.
Attend and participate in required meetings and training as needed.
