About The Position

ON.energy is seeking a Vice President of Product Management to lead and own the product roadmap for medium-voltage UPS systems serving the data center power market. The role defines product direction, translates market needs into actionable requirements, and establishes business cases and prioritization for future development. The VP will develop a well-supported 12–24-month roadmap that balances customer value, competitive differentiation, technical feasibility, regulatory and certification requirements, delivery timing, and financial outcomes. Reporting to the SVP of Engineering and working closely with the CTO and senior leadership, the VP will build and lead a small product management team while remaining hands-on in roadmap development, requirements, and customer work. The role also establishes scalable product management processes and represents product strategy with customers and at industry events. The preferred locations are Miami, Florida, or Washington, DC. Fully remote candidates will be considered, with preference for U.S.-based candidates. Travel is approximately 40–50% for customer meetings, industry events, and onsite collaboration. Candidates based outside the U.S. should expect additional travel to Miami and Washington, DC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of product management experience, including at least 5 years in a product leadership role managing people and owning a multi-product roadmap.
  • Experience leading small, hands-on product teams while balancing people leadership with individual contribution.
  • Significant product management experience with complex electrical hardware, systems, or mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring technical products to market, including requirements definition, pricing strategy, and launch planning.
  • Strong understanding of the data center industry and the buyer and user needs shaping critical power infrastructure decisions.
  • Sufficient technical depth to collaborate with R&D and engineering teams and assess technical tradeoffs and risks.
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards and certification pathways, such as UL 1778, IEC 62040, IEEE, and NFPA 70/NEC, and their impact on product cost, design, and launch timing.
  • Strong commercial judgment regarding demand forecasting, pricing, value proposition, and the economics of customization.
  • Experience engaging hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center operators, as well as EPCs, consulting engineers, and other purchasing decision influencers.
  • Ability to form independent viewpoints and communicate clearly with customers and executive leadership, including presenting business cases and articulating technical requirements in customer-facing contexts.
  • Proficiency with product management and roadmapping tools such as Jira, Aha!, or equivalent, and experience working within a stage-gate or similar development process.
  • Experience in a high-growth or venture-backed company, with comfort operating amid ambiguity and limited resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in UPS and/or critical power infrastructure, particularly low- or medium-voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with power electronics, energy storage and battery technologies, and utility/grid interconnection considerations.
  • Prior experience building or scaling a product management function.
  • MBA is not required; prior product leadership impact is the primary criterion.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a product roadmap with clear priorities, business cases, milestones, measurable outcomes, and commercial rationale.
  • Engage with customers, channel partners as applicable, and industry stakeholders to identify emerging requirements and trends in data center power infrastructure.
  • Translate market insights into product requirements, including target pricing, certification and compliance needs, and planned launch timing.
  • Partner with R&D and Engineering to assess technology options and recommend solutions based on feasibility, risk, and expected customer value.
  • Decide when customer-specific features merit investment and when they should be standardized in the broader product offering.
  • Partner with Sales on pricing and packaging, and with Marketing on positioning, product narratives, and launch planning.
  • Provide product direction to program management and engineering teams throughout development and delivery, ensuring released products meet their original intent.
  • Build, lead, and develop a small product management team; set expectations and coach team members while remaining a hands-on contributor.
  • Establish a durable, repeatable product management operating model that can scale with the business.
  • Represent product and strategy with customers and at relevant industry events.
  • Validate assumptions about customer demand, market trajectory, competitive landscape, and product differentiation.
  • Develop a prioritized roadmap with business cases, target outcomes, and delivery timelines.
  • Establish processes that connect customer insight to requirements, investment decisions, and execution alignment.
  • Hire and onboard a small product management team aligned to roadmap priorities.
  • Use market sizing, win/loss analysis, customer feedback, and field performance to drive prioritization and investment decisions.
  • Manage the full product lifecycle, including sustaining engineering, cost reduction, and end-of-life decisions.
