VP of Enterprise Sales

Prophecy•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Prophecy is building an AI-powered data preparation and analysis platform that helps business analysts and data teams transform raw data into reliable, production-ready datasets and insights. The company is seeking its first sales leader to take over key enterprise sales work from the founders, improve the performance of existing sales representatives, and build a scalable, predictable revenue organization. This is initially a hands-on, quota-carrying role focused on personally closing the largest opportunities while also coaching current representatives, hiring and ramping additional account executives, and establishing the sales operating model. The role owns enterprise sales execution, forecasting, pipeline reviews, qualification standards, deal-based playbooks, and reporting the sales number and an honest assessment of progress to the board. The position reports to a co-founder and is at Director or VP level. It may be based in the Bay Area, California, or remote. In the first 30 days, the successful candidate is expected to run the demo and pitch independently and learn the product’s strengths and limitations through live deals. By 90 days, they should have developed a named account list, territory map, and perspective on which enterprise segments to pursue, while running their own sales cycles and participating closely in existing representatives’ deals. By six months, the role is expected to achieve three-times pipeline coverage against quota, have multiple POCs underway, close and ramp initial hires, and provide a trusted forecast. By 12 months, the forecast should be reliable within a reasonable band, representatives should be closing deals without the leader’s involvement, and the team should be repeatedly using a written playbook based on the leader’s own wins.

Requirements

  • Recently carried and exceeded a personal quota, within the last two or three years.
  • Experience scaling a team from two or three representatives into a larger sales organization.
  • Fluency in complex enterprise sales cycles involving $50,000–$1 million ACV deals and six-to-nine-month timelines, with multiple stakeholders including a champion, VP, procurement, and security.
  • Sufficient technical range to maintain a productive conversation with a senior data platform leader.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, missing sales collateral, and unresolved pricing questions.
  • Director- or VP-level experience.

  • Build the sales operating rhythm, including forecasting, rigorous pipeline reviews, and a qualification standard used by the team.
  • Create written sales playbooks based on deals personally closed.
  • Own the sales number in front of the board and communicate candidly about what is working and what is not.
  • Develop a named account list, territory map, and point of view on which enterprise segments the company should pursue or stop pursuing.
  • Build pipeline coverage and manage multiple POCs and sales cycles.
  • Build a team and sales processes that enable predictable revenue without requiring the sales leader’s involvement in every cycle.
