About The Position

The Vice President, Human Resources provides executive level leadership and is a strategic business partner that promotes and implements the organizations core values and mission through strategic planning and management of human resources programs; responsible for developing and executing human capital strategy; maintains strong relationships with leadership teams and internal customers. Responsible for developing a philosophy for managing the human resource function to reflect best practices in alignment with the WVU Medicine organizational mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, industrial relations, business administration, or related field required.
  • 12-15 years of Human Resources experience with at least 7-10 years of prior leadership/people management experience required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and rulings of governmental agencies including but not limited to FLSA, EEO, OSHA, Unemployment and Workers’ Compensation.
  • Must possess strong leadership, communication, and team building skills.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to execute initiatives across a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted business partner with a strong business acumen and independent judgment.
  • Possess strong business acumen and the ability to identify correlations between Talent initiatives and business outcomes

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s preferred.
  • Professional Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification and/or SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification desirable and preferred.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory standards in the healthcare industry preferred.
  • Prior experience in Healthcare with an emphasis on strategic HR business partner relationships preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a strategic business partner that develops and leads the Human Resources team in the areas of organizational and performance management, succession planning, change management, recruitment and employee relations.
  • Serve as an advisor to the senior leadership team and a strategic advisor on human capital matters and their impact on organizational culture.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for HR programs and policies, ensuring that they are current, competitive, within financial constraints, and in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Establishes and implements HR initiatives that effectively communicate and support the organization’s vision and strategic plan.
  • Partners with key personnel and HR business partners and HR leaders to create, maintain and revise employee policies and participates in the WVUHS System-wide HR policy committee to represent the hospital.
  • Functions as a strategic business partner to the leadership teams regarding key organizational and strategic issues.
  • Acts as a liaison with WVU Medicine HR Shared Services to deliver the highest quality of HR services.
  • Monitor human resources indicators to identify problem areas and make recommendations to address deficiencies that will help better support the organization.
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective listener and problem solver of people issues
  • Provides consultancy, advice and coaching to all employees of the company; partners with leaders to effectively support, propose and lead initiatives that embrace a culture of high performance and drive success.
  • Implement change management plans to meet the continually changing needs of the organization.
  • Supports the system-wide HRBP, Employee Relations and HR Policy committee.
