VP, Commercial FP&A

Kendra Scott•Austin, TX

About The Position

The Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis is the senior finance partner to the Chief Commercial Officer, supporting Retail, Wholesale, Real Estate, International Expansion, Licensing, Product Expansion, and Strategic Partnerships. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer with a dotted-line relationship to the Chief Commercial Officer, this newly created role establishes a unified financial view across a commercial portfolio that includes approximately 180 stores, the store fleet and real estate pipeline, wholesale accounts, international markets, and emerging partnership models. The role combines rigorous planning and performance management with commercial judgment. It guides decisions about store openings, renewals, remodels, relocations and closures; improving store and account profitability; and investing in new channels, markets and partnerships. The Vice President leads an initial team of three finance professionals, with the organization expected to grow as the business expands. The position works directly with senior leaders and establishes the commercial finance model for the Chief Commercial Officer's organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • 15 or more years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis or commercial finance, including senior leadership responsibility in a multi-unit retail or consumer business.
  • Demonstrated experience leading store fleet finance, store-level profitability analysis, real estate underwriting, and capital allocation decisions.
  • Command of wholesale economics and customer profitability, including gross-to-net sales, margin, returns, allowances, sell-through, channel inventory levels, and cost to serve.
  • Strong financial modeling skills and ability to turn complex analysis into clear recommendations for senior executives.
  • Experience building and developing teams and operating effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with evolving processes and systems.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with judgment to influence decisions, challenge assumptions constructively, and build trusted cross-functional relationships.
  • High standards for accuracy, accountability, and follow-through, with ability to manage several high-priority decisions at the same time.
  • Experience improving enterprise planning, business intelligence, or management reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary finance partner to the Chief Commercial Officer and a trusted advisor to leaders of Retail, Real Estate, Wholesale, International Expansion, and Strategic Partnerships.
  • Translate business strategies into financial plans, investment choices, operating targets, and clear measures of success.
  • Provide independent, fact-based recommendations and help business leaders identify practical actions to improve revenue, margin, operating income, cash flow, and return on invested capital.
  • Prepare decision materials and recommendations for executive leadership, investment reviews, and other senior forums.
  • Own the financial planning and performance framework for the retail fleet, including store-level P&Ls, comparable- and new-store performance, cohort trends, four-wall contribution, occupancy, labor, and capital productivity.
  • Partner with Real Estate and Retail leadership on fleet reviews, market prioritization, lease decisions, and the multi-year store development plan.
  • Lead financial analysis for new stores, renewals, relocations, remodels, expansions, closures, and other fleet actions.
  • Establish post-investment reviews comparing actual store performance with approved assumptions and use findings to improve future underwriting.
  • Create actionable reporting to identify underperforming locations, emerging risks, and opportunities to improve fleet productivity and profitability.
  • Lead planning, forecasting, and performance analysis for major wholesale partners, specialty accounts, and other wholesale channels.
  • Develop customer and channel profit-and-loss views reflecting net sales, gross margin, markdowns, returns, allowances, freight, inventory, working capital, and cost to serve.
  • Partner with Wholesale leadership on account plans, door expansion, shop-in-shop opportunities, assortment and inventory decisions, promotional investments, and service-level tradeoffs.
  • Evaluate the economics of licensing, category expansion, travel retail, business-to-business opportunities, and other strategic partnerships; support deal structuring, scenario analysis, negotiation, approval, and ongoing performance measurement.
  • Build reporting using third-party channel data, including sell-through and inventory levels, to inform internal planning and decisions.
  • Lead financial evaluation of international market-entry choices, including wholesale, distributor, licensing, franchise, shop-in-shop, and owned-retail models where applicable.
  • Build market-level business cases incorporating demand, pricing, margin, duties and taxes, logistics, foreign exchange, local operating costs, working capital, capital requirements, and execution risk.
  • Create stage-gated investment plans and performance milestones that enable the company to test, learn, and scale with financial discipline.
  • Partner with Legal, Tax, Treasury, Supply Chain, Technology, Merchandising, and Marketing to ensure international plans reflect full costs and operating requirements.
  • Lead the annual budget, periodic forecasts, long-range plan, and recurring business reviews for the Chief Commercial Officer's portfolio.
  • Develop driver-based models and consistent key performance indicators connecting operating activity to financial results across stores, accounts, markets, and partnerships.
  • Deliver timely variance analysis and forward-looking insights, distinguishing temporary timing items from changes requiring action or a revised outlook.
  • Work with Accounting, Corporate FP&A, Treasury, and business teams to improve data quality, management reporting, forecast accuracy, and accountability for results.
  • Simplify and automate recurring analysis where possible so the team can focus more on decisions and less on assembling data.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing commercial finance team, beginning with three direct reports and expanding as business needs grow.
  • Set clear roles, priorities, standards, and development plans while fostering ownership, curiosity, constructive challenge, and follow-through.
  • Create scalable processes, models, and decision standards to support business growth across stores, wholesale partners, countries, and partnerships.
  • Strengthen financial acumen across supported functions and help leaders understand the economic drivers and tradeoffs behind their decisions.
