About The Position

Pomona College, a premier liberal arts college located near Los Angeles, California, is seeking a one-year, non-tenure track, Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Environmental Analysis. This full-time position involves a teaching load of five courses for the academic year. The successful candidate will teach and develop courses including Introduction to Environmental Analysis, Environmental Science: Sciences that Resist the Eurocene (project-based, interdisciplinary), and a GIS-focused course in collaboration with the EA Program and the Claremont Colleges community. Pomona College is known for its small classes, challenging curriculum, close student-faculty relationships, and opportunities for research and leadership. The college is situated in Los Angeles County, offering access to diverse natural and urban environments, and has a 45-acre ecological preserve, the Bernard Field Station, adjacent to campus. The college strongly supports experiential learning, community-engaged research, and innovative undergraduate teaching.

Requirements

  • Applicants should hold a doctorate (completed or in progress) in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a closely related field in hand by July 1, 2026; ABD welcome to apply.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to teach and mentor exceptional students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Utilize pedagogical practices that are rigorous, inclusive, and promote academic equity.
  • Provide proof of the legal right to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 for the duration of the contract, July 1, 2026 until June 30, 2027.
  • Be able to perform the essential functions of this job without imposing risk of substantial harm to the health or safety of themselves or others.
