About The Position

The Department of Urban and Environmental Studies at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), a Carnegie-classified R2 institution, seeks applicants for a one-semester (Spring 2027) Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies. This is a full-time, one-semester appointment with a 3-course teaching load, beginning January 2027. The successful candidate will teach Introduction to Environmental Studies, Race, Body, and Environment, and a First-Year Seminar based on their expertise. The department values collaborative, interdisciplinary, and community-engaged approaches and seeks candidates excited to teach and mentor a diverse student body in Los Angeles, contributing to LMU's teacher-scholar model.

Requirements

Ph.D. in environmental studies, geography or a closely related social science field by the position start date of January 2027
ABD applicants who anticipate completion of the doctorate by December 2026 will also be considered
Address commitment to and any past and/or potential contributions to advancing LMU's mission and promoting the success, sense of belonging, and thriving of students from a variety of lived experiences in application materials
Address commitments in relation to scholarship, teaching, mentorship, and/or advising
Provide a summary of teaching evaluations
Provide a copy of Ph.D. transcripts
