About The Position

Loyola Marymount University (LMU), a Catholic, Jesuit, and Marymount institution, is seeking a one-semester (Spring 2027) Visiting Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies. This full-time position involves a 3-course teaching load and is ideal for candidates who value inclusive excellence, the education of the whole person, and the pursuit of justice and the Common Good. Requirements

  • Hold a Ph.D. in environmental studies, geography, or a closely related social science field by the position start date of January 2027.
  • ABD applicants who anticipate completion of the doctorate by December 2026 will also be considered.

  • Address commitments in relation to scholarship, teaching, mentorship, and/or advising.

Responsibilities

  • Teach EVST 1000 Introduction to Environmental Studies.
  • Teach EVST 3998 Race, Body, and Environment.
  • Teach a First-Year Seminar (FFYS 1000) based on the candidate’s expertise.
  • Contribute to LMU's teacher-scholar model through excellent undergraduate teaching.
  • Teach and mentor a diverse student body in Los Angeles.
  • Engage students as whole persons and pursue scholarly work that promotes justice, equity, and the Common Good.
