About The Position
Tutor Partners is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable virtual AP Computer Science tutor to support high school students preparing for the AP exam. Tutors deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in programming, algorithms, and computational thinking, helping students build mastery, confidence, and readiness for college-level computer science coursework.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science required
- Certified teacher of Computer Science
- Strong working knowledge of the AP Computer Science curriculum (Java/programming fundamentals, or AP CS Principles concepts, depending on course)
- Reliable technology and internet for virtual instruction
- Patience, empathy, and commitment to equity and culturally responsive practices
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience tutoring or teaching AP-level students preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality AP Computer Science tutoring in a virtual, one-on-one setting
- Personalize instruction using assessments and student progress data
- Build supportive relationships that motivate students and foster confidence in problem-solving
- Teach topics including programming fundamentals (Java or Python), algorithms, data structures, computational thinking, and AP CS course content (A or Principles)
- Support exam preparation, coding projects, and real-world application problems
- Collaborate with educators, coaches, and families to align tutoring with course requirements
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and cultural responsiveness at all times
