About The Position

BridgeVoice Interpreters is seeking a qualified Vietnamese–English interpreter with medical or legal interpreting experience for an in-person, court-ordered competency examination in New Braunfels, Texas. Interpreters in New Braunfels, San Marcos, San Antonio, Austin, and surrounding areas who can travel to the assignment are encouraged to apply.

The assignment is scheduled for Tuesday, November 24, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. CST, in New Braunfels, TX 78130. Compensation starts at $75 per hour, with a two-hour minimum guaranteed at the agreed-upon hourly rate. The final rate depends on qualifications, relevant experience, and interpreter certifications or licensure.

Assignment-specific training is available for qualified interpreters who have not previously interpreted during competency examinations. Applicants must already have the language proficiency and interpreting skills needed for professional assignments. Selection is subject to review of experience, assessment of interpreting skills, and confirmation of the court’s qualification requirements.

Requirements

• Strong spoken proficiency in Vietnamese and English.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret accurately between Vietnamese and English.
• Professional interpreting experience in medical or legal settings.
• Familiarity with interpreting ethics, confidentiality, and impartiality.
• Reliability, discretion, and strong communication skills.
• Availability to attend the assignment in person.
• Applicants must already possess the language proficiency and interpreting skills necessary for professional assignments.

Nice To Haves

• Medical interpreter certification or Texas court interpreter licensure.
• Experience with mental health appointments, competency evaluations, or forensic assessments.

Responsibilities

• Provide complete and accurate consecutive interpretation between Vietnamese and English.
• Facilitate communication between the evaluator and the individual undergoing the examination.
• Preserve the meaning, tone, and content of each speaker’s statements without adding, omitting, or changing information.
• Maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and professional boundaries.
• Refrain from answering on the individual’s behalf, providing advice, or offering opinions about their mental condition.
• Notify the evaluator promptly if any communication cannot be interpreted reliably.
• Review available preparation materials and complete agreed-upon training before the assignment.
