Vice President, Construction

ICON•Austin, TX

About The Position

ICON Build is ICON’s general contracting division, delivering private-sector residential and non-residential projects in Texas and Florida, horizontal land development, and military construction awarded to ICON Prime. The division is growing project volume, shifting toward non-residential buildings, and expanding self-performed trades beyond printing. The Vice President, Construction owns delivery from signed contract through project completion and is accountable for schedule, budget, quality, and construction gross margin across the division. The role leads estimating and the Program Management Office, project management, regional construction operations in Texas and Florida and on military installations, construction purchasing and supply chain, and—after an initial transition—print operations. The Vice President reports to the President, ICON Build, and works alongside ICON Prime, Finance, and the Design, Building Science, Hardware, and Software teams. The role will build the regional construction organization, self-perform field team, purchasing capabilities, and project controls needed to operate across multiple markets. It is based in Austin, Texas, with travel to Texas and Florida job sites and military installations.

  • Executive accountability for a portfolio with at least $100M in annual construction volume across multiple concurrent projects.

  • Direct ownership of estimating and preconstruction, project management, and field operations at the same time in at least one prior role.
  • Experience managing construction procurement, including subcontractor buyout and material purchasing.
  • Based in Austin, Texas, with travel to Texas and Florida job sites and military installations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an owner-operator or vertically integrated builder that funds, designs, and builds its own assets.
  • Experience opening or running self-performed trades, especially concrete and foundations.
  • Federal or military construction delivery experience, such as USACE, NAVFAC, or similar.
  • Experience opening a new regional market for a general contractor.
  • Horizontal land development and civil construction experience.
  • Professional Engineer license or Certified Construction Manager credential.

Responsibilities

  • Own schedule, budget, and quality for every ICON Build project from contract through closeout across residential, non-residential, civil, and military construction.
  • Lead regional construction operations through Directors of Construction in Texas, Milcon, and Florida; staff markets ahead of project starts and hold regional leaders accountable for field performance, subcontractor management, and safety.
  • Build the project management and superintendent bench needed to schedule work and hold trades accountable to schedules.
  • Lead preconstruction through the Estimating team and Program Management Office, owning estimate accuracy, bid-to-build handoff, and workflows from business development through buildout.
  • Establish an operating cadence that reports each project against baseline schedule and budget and surfaces variances early.
  • Standardize construction purchasing by negotiating volume agreements for high-spend materials, maintaining a long-lead equipment procurement calendar, and establishing buyout controls that protect margin.
  • Expand self-performed trades beyond printing, beginning with concrete foundations, including field leadership, purchasing, and a cost model for selecting future self-performed work.
  • Assume ownership of Print Operations after an initial transition, integrate printed structure into project schedules, and hold print output and quality to portfolio standards.
  • Serve as construction executive for ICON Prime military construction programs, delivering phased work to federal schedule, quality, and compliance requirements.
  • Own construction gross margin in partnership with Finance, including project-level P&L, work-in-progress reporting, forecasting, and margin-improvement actions.
  • Hire, develop, and lead the construction leadership team, including open regional and self-perform leadership positions.
