About The Position

The Veterinarian Research Intern is responsible for leading a veterinary intern research project. This role involves understanding and following company animal welfare, husbandry, and biosecurity requirements, and applying research techniques. The intern will work closely with others on day-to-day tasks, manage and implement a research project with live animal work, collect and record data, and participate in all research projects, training sessions, and meetings. A key part of the role is preparing an abstract and poster or oral presentation for the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) Student Seminar competition and attending the annual conference if selected. This position is for current United States Veterinary Students in an accredited college or university.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment as a United States Veterinary Student in an accredited college or university.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Current and valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR.
  • Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be available for occasional travel.
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Must understand that Smithfield is a producer of high-quality pork for human consumption and must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for meat.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
