Part-time Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
Heartland Pet Hospital is hiring a part-time Veterinary Assistant for its family-focused general practice in Bellevue, Nebraska. The hospital provides medical and preventative care for companion animals, including diagnostic testing, imaging, surgery, and behavioral and nutritional counseling. The Veterinary Assistant supports patient care through restraint, triage, laboratory work, diagnostic imaging, nursing care, medication administration, client communication, surgical assistance, and anesthetic management. The role requires the ability to withstand unpleasant odors and noises and may involve exposure to bites, scratches, animal waste, and potentially contagious diseases. The position offers opportunities for hands-on and virtual training and continuing development, and may lead to a full-time position in the future. The part-time schedule requires availability Monday from 7:15 AM to 6:00 PM, Wednesday from 7:15 AM to 5:30 PM, and Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience in veterinary assistant duties.
- Ability to properly restrain pets.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow within the clinic.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Compassionate, calm, team-oriented, and able to multitask.
- Self-starter with a desire to advance knowledge and skills.
- Availability for the stated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule.
Nice To Haves
- Proficiency in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Restrain pets and triage incoming patients.
- Collect and analyze laboratory samples.
- Perform diagnostic imaging.
- Manage and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability.
- Administer medications.
- Communicate treatment plans effectively to clients.
- Prepare for and assist with surgery.
- Provide anesthetic management.
