About The Position

Heartland Pet Hospital is a family-focused general practice in Bellevue, Nebraska, providing medical and preventative care to companion animals and their people. This part-time Veterinary Assistant role supports patient care and clinic operations, including restraint, triage, diagnostics, nursing care, medication administration, client communication, and surgical assistance. The position has a set schedule on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The clinic offers opportunities for virtual and hands-on training and continuing development; the role may lead to a full-time position in the future.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in veterinary assistant duties.
• Ability to properly restrain pets.
• Willingness to learn and grow within the clinic while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Compassionate, calm, team-oriented, able to multitask, and a strong communicator.
• Self-starter with a desire to continue advancing knowledge and skills.
• Availability Mondays 7:15 AM–6:00 PM, Wednesdays 7:15 AM–5:30 PM, and Fridays 7:30 AM–6:00 PM.
• Ability to withstand unpleasant odors and noises; may be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste, and potentially contagious diseases.

Nice To Haves

• Proficiency in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Restrain pets.
• Triage incoming patients.
• Collect and analyze laboratory samples.
• Perform diagnostic imaging.
• Manage and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability.
• Administer medications.
• Communicate treatment plans effectively to clients.
• Prepare for and assist with surgeries.
• Manage anesthesia.
