About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is hiring veterinarians to provide compassionate in-home hospice and euthanasia care in Des Moines, Beaverdale, Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and surrounding communities. The privately and family-owned organization emphasizes professional independence, meaningful medicine, and support from a team that coordinates appointments, families, and aftercare. Hospice experience is not required; the organization supports veterinarians as they transition into this field. The role offers 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-day schedules, including self-managed flexible scheduling opportunities, with full-time and part-time options. Four-day positions start at $90,000 annually, and five-day positions offer a $125,000 annual base salary, with additional quarterly performance-based bonus opportunities. Compensation for two- and three-day and self-managed flexible schedules is prorated based on the agreed schedule. Benefits vary by position and eligibility.

Requirements

DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree.
Active North Carolina veterinary license or eligibility.
Valid driver's license.
Compassion and commitment to exceptional end-of-life care.
Availability consistent with the position's schedule, including some weekends.
