Veterinarian Externship - Chicagoland Area
About The Position
Boughton Square Animal Clinic is a full-service general practice in Bolingbrook, Illinois, serving the local community since 2009. The clinic is equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound, and an in-house Idexx lab. The externship provides veterinary students with guided mentorship and active involvement in daily patient care, with learning across a spectrum of care and exposure to clinical decision-making, client communication, and potentially surgery. The experience is customized to meet students’ academic requirements and personal learning goals in a welcoming, team-oriented environment that values communication, honesty, and ethics. Eligible students may receive reimbursement for qualifying expenses of up to $600 per week.
Requirements
- Must have completed the first year of a DVM program.
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited veterinary medicine program.

- Interest in client communication, surgery, or clinical decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Participate actively in daily patient care.
- Work one-on-one with experienced veterinarians and discuss cases, treatment options, and the reasoning behind clinical decisions.
- Learn to practice medicine across a spectrum of care, including diagnostic and treatment options suited to client circumstances and patient quality of life.
- Develop learning goals with mentors based on academic requirements, interests, and future career plans.
