About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee, the Registered Nurse acts as a patient advocate through the application of the nursing process and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Care reflects the age-specific needs of patients and Brown University Health’s values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence, as well as its core Success Factors: Instill Trust and Value Differences; Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate. This is a supplemental per-diem staffing position intended to support continuous high-quality patient care during staffing gaps caused by absences, vacancies, or increased census. Hours are not guaranteed. Per-diem employees self-schedule through Kronos Advanced Scheduling or contact their manager where Basic Scheduling is used. Employees must work at least 24 hours per four-week schedule in 12-hour shifts, including at least 12 night-shift hours and, if available, at least 12 weekend hours. A 12-hour weekend night shift satisfies the commitment. Employees must also work one winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s) and one other listed holiday (MLK Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day). Hospital-canceled shifts count toward scheduling minimums and holiday commitments; shifts worked to cover another employee do not count toward required hours. Per-diem obligations must be met on the home unit before working in other units. Failure to meet requirements may result in corrective action or a status review. The position is at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Work is per diem with variable hours; the listed schedule is 0700–1730, and daily hours are as required. The role is not driving-required. Per-diem RN rates are listed as $60.00, with eligibility for shift differentials under Brown Health pay practices. The posting also lists a pay range of $35.70–$71.40. Per-diem benefits include jury duty pay, bereavement pay, and retirement-program eligibility under Brown University Health policy. Per-diem employees are not eligible for earned time accrual or health, dental, life, or disability insurance. The health system reserves the right to discontinue the per-diem program under its Human Resources policies and procedures.
