About The Position

The Registered Nurse on the Vascular Access Team provides nursing care for patients at Union and Union West. The role uses the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate care, while engaging patients and families throughout the continuum of care. The nurse monitors patient conditions, adjusts care plans, mobilizes resources, and collaborates with the care team to influence patient outcomes.

The nurse promotes safety and evidence-based practice, contributes to professional governance and quality initiatives, and maintains accurate, timely electronic health record documentation. The role may include administering medications, treatments, and therapies according to clinical protocols; delegating appropriately; and floating to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area. Care must be appropriate to the ages and developmental needs of the patients served.

Requirements

• Graduate of a Board of Nursing-approved nursing education program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Active registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where nursing services are provided.
• Typically, 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
• Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.
• Time-management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Proficiency with computer functions, including email, electronic records, and digital platforms.
• Ability to perform frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, reaching above the shoulders, and twisting.
• Ability to lift and support 35 pounds; push or pull with 30 pounds of force; and perform a sliding transfer of 150 pounds with a second person present.
• Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, and fine-hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures or functions.
• Ability to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines, perform physical safety interventions if needed, and respond quickly to changes in patient or unit conditions.
• Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment when necessary due to potential exposure to chemicals, hazardous waste, blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases.

• Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications.
• Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics, make ethical decisions, respect interdisciplinary roles, and contribute to integrated, unbiased patient care.
• Maintain accurate and timely electronic health record documentation.
• Float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area when required.
• Provide care appropriate to patients’ ages and developmental needs, following departmental policies and procedures.
