About The Position

The Wayne County Transportation Department in Honesdale, PA is hiring dependable, compassionate drivers to provide door-to-door transportation for county residents, including helping seniors access essential services and appointments. This part-time job offers the opportunity to make a difference in the community by enhancing the mobility of consumers through safe, reliable, comfortable, and courteous transportation. Strong communication skills and reliability are essential.

Requirements

  • One year of employment which required operation of a motor vehicle as a regular duty, or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
  • No suspension of driver’s license within the last three years.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Pass a medical examination and drug screening (conditional offer of employment).
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance (conditional offer of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Operate a county vehicle an average of 150 miles each day.
  • Assist consumers, including senior adults and wheelchair-dependent consumers, from their home door, on and off the vehicle, and to the door of their drop-off location, patiently assisting them along various path conditions.
  • Communicate effectively person-to-person and via two-way radio.
  • Follow directions listed on a mobile tablet.
  • Adjust daily schedule to meet consumer needs.
  • Provide important assistance and socialization throughout the day while following a schedule.
  • Contact a dispatcher to help correct any scheduling conflicts.
  • Complete the daily pre-trip checklist and report any issues or changes.
  • Participate in agency training.
