UX / UI Design

About The Position

OXMAN is seeking its first product designer for the EDEN team. The UX / UI Designer will turn proven computational methods, developed by in-house specialists on client projects, into interactive web products. The role combines interactive web design, spatial data and generative technology, and focuses on a platform that helps non-experts explore how architectural site design can be optimized through ecosystem engineering and spatial AI modeling. The designer will own wireframing, visual prototyping and user experience design, working closely with EDEN leadership, software engineers and data scientists. This is a hands-on role: the designer will create the first version of the product and shape how EDEN’s technology is experienced by clients. The position is based on-site in EDEN’s New York City office.

Requirements

  • 5 to 7 years of product design experience.
  • Experience designing at least one complex B2B or technical product from early stage through deployment.
  • Strong craft in interactive web design, information architecture, visual clarity and prototyping, demonstrated through a portfolio.
  • Experience designing for data, such as maps, spatial information, dashboards, simulation outputs, or scientific and engineering tools.
  • Habit of working directly with engineers and testing designs with users before the design is finished.
  • Fluency in Figma.
  • Clear writing for engineers, scientists, designers and clients.
  • Ability to put rough work in front of real users early and change the product in response.
  • Ability to design the first version of a product personally and own decisions that shape it.
  • Comfort defining a product when the technology and clients exist but the product does not yet.
  • Ability to work directly with engineers so that what is designed is what ships.
  • Eagerness to learn how sites are designed and ecosystems are engineered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with 3D, GIS, CAD or geospatial interfaces.
  • Experience designing products built on generative, AI or optimization systems where outputs are not fully predictable and users need to steer and trust them.
  • Experience designing tools for architecture, engineering, construction, real estate development or land management.
  • Front-end prototyping ability.
  • Background or genuine interest in landscape, ecology or the built environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with EDEN’s applied technology team and embedded clients to understand current site-design, topography and ecosystem-engineering workflows, then define the first user and how they use EDEN’s tools.
  • Design the interface to a generative design engine, including how users state goals, set constraints, view trade-offs, interpret results and decide when to trust outputs.
  • Make complex spatial and scientific data legible through maps, 3D views, charts and comparisons across topography, hydrology, vegetation, microclimate and cost.
  • Establish a scalable design system, component library and interaction patterns, and work with engineering to ensure designs are implemented as intended.
  • Prototype and test with clients early, run research sessions, synthesize findings and update the product in response.
  • Review the existing web demos and help create a design guide.
  • Embed with the Applied Technology team on a live client project to learn how specialists use current tools and where clients need support.
  • Map the first product vertical’s end-to-end user journey, from site data to a validated design, and identify workflow steps that still require EDEN’s team.
  • Deliver a prototyped and client-tested design for the core product flow.
  • Establish a working rhythm with engineering for specifying, reviewing and shipping designs.
